  • How to Fill in Coverage Gaps With Peace of Mind

When you insure something, you’re essentially bringing yourself peace of mind that, in the event of a claim, you will not experience a total loss. Whether you’re insuring a life, a business or valuable possessions, this peace of mind is an integral part of your daily life entrusted to your insurance agent. Although there are numerous products on the market, you might be surprised to learn that most standard policies contain gaps in coverage, leaving you and your assets vulnerable. At Wiedemann Insurance Agency, we are not tied to any one company’s products, but represent various companies, so we can offer you custom-tailored coverage. And with over 30 years in business, we have the experience to know how to help you fill in those coverage gaps with peace of mind.

Here are five insurance products that fill in commonly overlooked gaps; letting you rest assured that you’re protected:

    1. Professional Liability

Most businesses are familiar with general liability insurance, which protects against claims of property damage and bodily or personal injury. While obtaining this coverage is important, it does not protect you from claims of negligence, misrepresentation or violation of good faith. These claims can happen to any business or individual that offers advice or service to others and arise when a client feels they suffered a loss due to the negligence of you or your company. For example, a real estate agent fails to disclose a mold problem to their buyer. The agent could be sued by said buyer for all costs associated with removing the mold. In this case, the professional liability insurance would cover the realtor’s costs incurred while defending themselves against the claim, as well as any that may arise from the judgement. Widely used by medical offices, construction companies and accounting firms, it can give you peace of mind knowing you’re protecting your business from potential financial loss.

    2. Special Events

Special events, such as a birthday party or your company’s holiday banquet, can require a lot of meticulous planning and can also leave you vulnerable to situations beyond your control. That’s why we recommend protecting yourself with special events insurance, which can cover you or your business from claims of physical injury or property damage occurring during your event. This could be anything from someone breaking their arm during a wedding to a damaged venue bathroom at the company summer picnic. If a claim arises, it would cover potential incurred costs not covered by your general liability policy. In situations where anything can happen, it’s important to have this coverage to help minimize your chance for financial loss resulting from a claim.

    3. Accident

Let’s face it, accidents happen. And they can happen to anyone, at any time. Accident insurance can help fill in the gaps in your health insurance coverage when you need medical attention as a result of an accident. For example, you break your leg climbing a ladder to clean your gutters. Accident insurance would help cover costs such as: health insurance deductibles and co-pays, medical supplies, physical therapy, gas, food and lodging expenses associated with getting to and from doctor’s appointments. It can also help cover any lost income due to missing work. These are not costs that would be typically covered by health insurance. By obtaining an accident policy, you would have the peace of mind that comes along with knowing you won’t have to drain your savings account in the event of an accident.

    4. Scheduled Personal Property

Many people have valuables, keepsakes or memorabilia they want to protect, but not everyone is aware that a basic homeowner’s policy will not cover everything they own in the event of a loss. High-value items such as musical instruments, firearms, collections, jewelry, furs or artwork are not fully covered by a basic policy and will need this extra protection. Don’t take the risk of having a fire destroy your childhood baseball collection or take the chance of losing your grandmother’s wedding ring on your tropical vacation—make sure your valuables are scheduled and protected from the start.

    5. Bonds

Imagine that you’ve hired a contractor to work on your home. Some of us might simply take their proper licensing as bond that they’ll finish the job you’ve hired them to do. Unfortunately, this leaves you open to risk due to coverage gaps in the contractor’s insurance. This is a situation where a contract bond can help you. A contract bond obligates said contractor to complete the job and is guaranteed by the issuing company. In the event the work is not completed, the issuing company is obligated to find another contractor to finish the job. How’s that for peace of mind? Bonds come in many forms and for many reasons; such as probate, license and permit bonds. Each type of bond has their own purpose, but all serve to protect your interests.

These are just a handful of ways we can fill in your coverage gaps, giving you the peace of mind you deserve and entrust to us. Contact us for a consultation or follow the links below for more information.

Insider Insurance Secrets to Success You Need to Know Right Now

When the day’s heat begins to swelter before noon and the sounds outside your window at night are snap, crackle and pop, you know it's summertime in the USA. And the official start of summer means America’s celebration of independence is getting close. It seems the party starts earlier every year, with fireworks filling the skies up to weeks before the big day. Everywhere you look, stars and stripes are being hung and communities are planning events to commemorate the occasion. Pie-baking contests, rodeos, carnivals and BBQ cook-offs top the list of things to do any given weekend, with the local pool being the main daytime attraction for kids.

And it's no wonder people are coming together, since freedom is something really worth celebrating. Although the Fourth of July marks when our nation gained its independence, it’s also the time of year we like to pause and reflect on what freedom means to our company.

Our independence as a local Oklahoma insurance agency is something we’re proud of and go to great measures to uphold. The fact that we’ve remained independent since 1980 is a testament to how we do business, which is by always putting our clients first. Our superior customer service is what sets us apart and is best achieved by remaining independent, which gives us the ability to extend various benefits along to our clients.

    Options

Being an independent agency means we have the freedom to represent more than one company. Whereas a lot of agencies are captive, or represent only one company, we are partnered with multiple insurance companies, which enables us to present our clients with options. And since variety is the spice of life, we believe this is a major factor in our success. Regardless of what policy you’re in the market for, you need options to choose from. We recommend getting quotes from at least three different companies to ensure you're getting the best policy available.

    Time Savings

Another benefit of being an independent agency is the amount of time we save our clients.Sure, you can contact three companies on your own, but why waste so much of your time? With one phone call, we can get you comparable quotes from multiple companies, thus ensuring you’re getting the most competitive rates out there. And since time is money, you'll enjoy double savings when you choose Wiedemann.

    Personal Service

We believe personal service goes a long way in making a company truly successful. And being independent allows us to go the extra mile for our clients, undoubtedly producing secure connections, expanding our network and solidifying our business reputation. This is especially important in today’s digital world where consumers are used to instant gratification and answers at the click of a mouse. Most are tempted to go online looking for fast coverage, but it often ends up costing them more in the long run. Dealing with e-commerce insurance is risky behavior, not only when considering the proper coverage amounts for your specific needs, but also in the fine print, which can cause you unforeseen issues down the road. What’s worse, when you have a question or claim and call the toll-free number, the only help they offer is automated. Where’s the customer service? Don’t trust your protection to an impersonal computer program that doesn’t have the ability to consider your needs and how they can be best met, stop by our office to speak to someone in person or give us a call to schedule a consultation.

    Resources

We’re proud to belong to many groups that help foster our business relationships, increase our knowledge and experience, and also help build positive, helpful relationships with our clients. This time of year, we like to focus on the OAA (Oklahoma Agents Alliance), whose mission it is to offer local, independent agents the ability to remain independent while establishing their agency and expanding their professional reach. Some of the numerous benefits we (and, in turn, you) reap through our membership include:

    • Training and education opportunities
    • SIAA national incentive
    • Access to expert advice and resources
    • Business insurance opportunities
    • Excess and surplus lines options
    • Increased value, income and commissions
    • The Agency Foundation helps build a solid, reputable agency

Earlier this month, we attended the OAA’s 15th annual Success Celebration; a nod to the past year’s industry activity, which awards the members based on things like performance and profitability. Over 200 people in attendance welcomed new members, inducted existing members into the Hall of Fame and accepted profit sharing awards totaling nearly five million dollars.

We’re beyond excited to announce that out of 120+ agencies, Wiedemann received awards for Top Performing Agency and Profitability, an acknowledgement so huge to us, we just had to share the good news with you.

This is monumental for us, but it’s even bigger for our clients. The better we produce for the industry, the better we are taking care of our clients, which is really what’s at the heart of our company’s mission: Individuals over things. Relationships over money.

  • How to Lessen Your Liability This Summer

Increasing temperatures and longer, sunnier days means summer is on the horizon. Mother Nature is tempting people to spend those extra hours outdoors camping, boating, road-tripping and doing countless other warm-weather activities. Some people are looking forward to a vacation away, while others are planning family reunions and barbecues close to home. No matter what your summer plans are, it's important to keep in mind that these activities carry a certain amount of liability for you. Even Mother Nature can get ugly from time to time; don’t let the fun of summer keep you from protecting yourself from potential risks.

Whether you're heading across the country for the trip of a lifetime or planning a fiesta-filled staycation, there are a few things you should do first:

    Check Your Policies

    • Stormy summer weather has the tendency to wreak havoc on your property. Downed trees and roof damage are just a couple of ways it can cause devastation, sending you straight for an insurance claim. And if you don't have the proper coverage, you risk spending a lot of money out-of-pocket for repairs. Regardless of the season, it's crucial to always make sure your home, its contents and your entire property are fully covered and at their current values.
    • Let's face it, accidents happen. Even when we’ve played by all the rules, occasional mishaps will pop up and sometimes it will result in an injury. That’s why you want to make sure you're properly covered. Something as simple as having a play date in your backyard can carry the risk of a broken leg, an allergic reaction to a bee sting or any number of unforeseen events. Contact your agent to make sure your homeowners policy covers any accidents that could occur on your property.
    • Most homeowners policies follow you while you're on a trip, but it's a good idea to clarify before you go on vacation. If they don't cover rentals, we recommend getting renters insurance for condo or cabin stays. You’ll also want to make sure your home and its contents will be covered while you're away.
    • Not all auto policies carry over to cover rentals, which means you may end up being fully liable for any damages incurred while a rented vehicle is in your possession. Whether you’re renting a car or an RV, always check with your agent first, then you may want to consider the policy offered by the rental company.

    Play It Safe

One of the best ways to lessen your liability is to stay ahead of the game. A little prep work can go a long way in ensuring your summer goes smoothly.

    • If you have a pool, it's highly important to keep it maintained on a regular basis. Before each use, check for debris or other objects that could be harmful to swimmers. Always keep it clean and covered when not in use. Some policies require fencing around pools as a safety precaution, so check with your agent to make sure you’re meeting the guidelines.
    • Do frequent walkthroughs of the yard to check for hazards like holes or sharp objects that could cause harm to someone.
    • Make sure toys and playground equipment are clean and functioning properly, any fencing is in tact and gates close and lock as they should.
    • If using a grill, ensure it's a safe distance from house or other structures to avoid a potential fire hazard.
    • Scan your property for any harmful nature--beehives, wasps nests, poison ivy or anything else that could cause issues.
    • Stay on top of any activities going on in and around your home; monitor playing children or sporting teenagers and always be aware of your surroundings when outside.
